The Internal Revenue Service has announced that for the 2017 tax year (tax returns filed in 2018), individual returns will not be accepted or processed if the filing does not include the information needed to determine if the tax-filer has complied with the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act’s (ACA) individual mandate. If a person tries to file a return electronically without including information about their health coverage status in 2017, then the return will not be accepted.
